Buying UAE property from China and abroad

What you can do without travelling, the documents you need, moving money, and residency.

Foreign buyers can own freehold property in designated areas of Dubai and in investment zones in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. Most of the purchase can be handled while you are abroad.

What you can do remotely

  • View homes and show flats by video call, in Chinese, English or Arabic.
  • Reserve a unit and pay the deposit by bank transfer.
  • Sign the sale agreement electronically, where the developer allows it.
  • Appoint someone by power of attorney for steps that need a person present.

Documents

You need a valid passport. A power of attorney signed outside the UAE usually has to be notarised and then legalised before UAE authorities accept it. The steps differ by country, so ask us for the current process before you sign one.

Moving money

Payments are made by bank transfer to the developer or the seller, or into the project's escrow account for off-plan homes. If you are sending money from mainland China, China's foreign-exchange rules apply, so speak to your bank before you commit to a purchase.

Residency

Owning property in the UAE may qualify you for a residence visa, and property worth AED 2 million or more may qualify for the 10-year Golden Visa. The authorities set and change the rules, so we confirm what applies to your case.
